Regency Inn & Suites

The beach is right across the street, with a Circle K gas station beside the hotel that has a great selection of things. It's quiet, parking is decent, there's an elevator, and the indoor heated pool is a really nice feature for colder winter nights. You can actually swim laps for exercise or use it for physical therapy, and it wasn't too crowded. The front desk women are really nice and handle questions quickly. Rooms are okay, a bit dated but not rusty. Our TV was starting to go, losing the picture but not the sound or settings. We mostly used the room to sleep and freshen up, so it wasn't a big deal. For the price and location, it's a nice hotel. I do wish breakfast were included, though there are plenty of affordable places along A1A, like Cafe 11 weekend's buffet. They had maintenance going on that sometimes blocked the hallways. Maybe they could schedule that for a quieter season, but at least the building was being maintained, unlike some places along the coast.

We loved the location so much that we wished we'd booked a longer stay, and the staff were fabulous. The room needed attention, though. I had to get fresh sheets because of a strange yellow spot and a hair. I'm not sure the floor gets cleaned at all, the fridge was dirty, and there was quite a bit of hair in the bathroom corners. I'd stay again for the location, but I'd bring my own cleaning supplies.

I went back because my stay in 2020 was great. The room had been spotless, so I dug through old emails to find the place and booked right away. I'm not sure what changed between 2020 and 2025, or whether the management or staff changed, but this was my second and last stay at this so-called hotel. If I could give it negative five, I would. There were cracks everywhere, a light musty smell, and hair in the sink, on the beds and in the bathroom. The filthy bathroom vent was the last straw, especially with the ceiling so low that it couldn't be missed. The cable TV was terrible, too. You'd think in 2025 there'd at least be a smart TV so you could log into your apps.

For our two nights in St Augustine, we used this as a base to see the town and the Forts. It was a much better value than other places on our trip. The beach is very close, just across the street and a 3-4 minute walk. The bed was comfortable, and there was a fridge without a freezer, plus a microwave. No breakfast, but there was coffee in the room and by the front desk. The room was clean apart from a few crumbs on the counter, and it felt a little damp, as I'd expected so near the coast.
