Hyatt Place St George/Convention Center

The people here made this the best hotel stay I’ve had in a long time. I travel a lot for work, and Sadie took especially good care of me at check-in and check-out. The two young men on the evening shift went out of their way when I needed something printed and the business center printer was out of ink. A housekeeping worker I met in the elevator was also incredibly friendly. Give them all raises! I was glad I switched from the Marriott, where reviews said a couple floors were under construction. I don’t usually stay at Hyatt hotels, but I’m now looking at them for other places I visit. In St. George, I’ll stay at the Hyatt Place again. My room had a great south-facing view of the surrounding hills. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the TV had more channels than most hotels, and the bathroom was practical, with lots of counter space, strong shower pressure, and towel hooks in just the right place for my toiletry bag. Freeway noise was almost inaudible. The pool and hot tub were closed for repairs, but guests could use the ones at the hotel next door. Breakfast had all the usual options, plus a skillet of pancakes, which was nice compared with waiting in line to make waffles elsewhere. The parking lot was huge, with EV chargers at the back. Book it already!

The water pressure stayed wildly inconsistent throughout our two-night stay, and at one point there was no water at all. When I reported it to the front desk, they seemed skeptical, which felt insulting as a guest. We weren’t told about the weak pressure until check-in, even though that should have been disclosed before we arrived and before they checked us in. This was far from the Hyatt standard. Management promised to adjust the bill for the trouble, but after several messages, they still haven’t followed through. I’m waiting for the Hyatt team to honor that promise. We were there 12/29-12/31.

The hotel has an odd smell, and the room needs updating. I was assigned an accessible room even though I hadn’t requested one and wasn’t eligible for it, which I’d rather not be in. The faucet is so close to the mirror that it hits it when turned on, so it can’t be turned all the way. Water pressure was low, too.

The WiFi alone made this place not worth paying more than the cheaper hotels nearby. The signal in my room was strong, but speeds were under 5 mb/s, too slow for regular browsing and useless for streaming or work. For two days in a row, the water would run for a few minutes, stop for 20, come back briefly, then stop again. I assume they’ll fix it, but management never said what was happening or what to expect. It made for a very frustrating trip. Be aware of these problems if you’re considering staying here.
