The Wildset

Jenny greeted us and pointed us toward places to eat, including The Bistro restaurant, which turned out to be a great pick. The staff were all friendly and knew the area and things to do really well. We stayed in the building across the street from the main hotel, and the plentiful parking made arrival and checkout easy. Our suite was nicely furnished, with a fire box that added to the atmosphere. Breakfast was included, along with coffee, tea, and juice. A lovely boutique hotel right in the heart of St. Michaels.

Breakfast at Ruse was my favorite part of the stay. There’s also a little lobby shop with lovely gifts for different tastes, plus things you might have forgotten to bring. The hotel is one of the nicest boutique places in the region, with thoughtful design and decor almost everywhere.

St Michael is a lovely town, though check opening hours before heading out. Some restaurants, cafes, and shops only open for dinner or close for a couple of days during the week. We found The Wildset clean and comfortable, with large rooms, a nice garden and fire pit, some backyard toys, and rental bikes. The staff were fantastic, very welcoming and always happy to help. But whether you sleep well depends a lot on who’s in the room next door. The walls are thin. One night we heard everything from a neighboring family, including their toddler screaming and the adults talking constantly. Breakfast was another drawback. It was limited to fruit, pastries, and granola, and the granola was sugary, as you might expect in America. We were traveling with our child and couldn’t find anything to give her that wasn’t buttery or sugary. Even though a small breakfast was included, we went to a cafe down the road every morning and paid extra. I’d recommend the hotel, but keep the thin walls and breakfast in mind if those matter to you. We stayed two nights in August 2025.

The location was good, and the staff were very friendly. We liked the bright, minimalist decor in the main building, where we spent a long weekend. There are three buildings altogether. The included breakfast was simple but tasty and enough for us, and the espresso you can buy at reception, where there’s also a small shop, was the best coffee we found in town. The room itself could use a few things: there weren’t enough bathroom hooks, and there was no chair, only a padded shelf above the two drawers. There also wasn’t a lounge area on the main floor.
