The hotel is charming, historic, elegant, clean, and conveniently walkable to downtown St Paul, though dated despite being very well maintained. The staff are fantastic. Apart from the incident mentioned below, service would have earned a 5. The rooms are really clean, but the furniture and bathrooms are ready for redecorating. The old draperies and air filters definitely affect air quality. Windows are small, but the outdoor river views are great. With updates, it would be perfect for VIPs visiting the area.

We came for two nights for a nearby wedding and got a group rate. The hotel offered luxury and excellent service at a great price. It's within walking distance of downtown St. Paul and the Mississippi River, and both the rooms and service were outstanding. We had breakfast at The Drake downstairs both mornings, and the creative menu was delicious. A wonderful place to stay.

The rest of our stay was quite nice, and the room itself was very good. But the first impression was poor: the receptionist who checked us in was VERY impersonal, which made the welcome feel far below standard. The reception staff at both valet and front desk left a lot to be desired.

I love the Saint Paul Hotel's historic character and antique atmosphere. It feels timeless and elegant throughout. Service was excellent from the concierge to valet, with everyone welcoming and helpful. I spent most of my stay in the conference rooms, which were comfortable, well organized, and great for meetings. The room was spotless and luxurious, with thoughtful extras like good snacks and drinks and a robe in the bathroom. Everything seemed well cared for. Wi-Fi worked, and I could connect fast Netflix and similar services to the in-room TV. I'm looking forward to coming back, and next time I'll check out the café downstairs.

The rest of the hotel was really nice, which made this frustrating. It was 80 degrees outside, and even with the windows open the room felt too hot. I sleep warm and need a fairly cool room, but we couldn't use the thermostat. For a 4* hotel, that's rough. Next time I'll need somewhere with an AC unit I can control that actually works, so I can sleep.
