Fairfield Inn by Marriott Fort Leonard Wood St. Robert

The bed and pillows were comfortable, as I usually find at Marriott properties, but I’ve started avoiding Fairfields. They’re okay for a night or two, and the St. Roberts location was no exception. I spend a lot of time in hotels and usually choose somewhere else only when a Marriott isn’t available, but the Fairfield experience has slipped for me. During my few nights here, the room smelled musty, a little moldy. It wasn’t overpowering, just noticeable. The place needs updating: there were no USB ports by the bed, and the outlets were hard to reach. Wi-Fi worked well enough, but I wanted a CAT6 connection. There was a hole in the wall plate above the desk, with no connection, and I only found two plugs. The bathroom lighting was dim and gloomy.

Breakfast and coffee were good, and I didn’t hear much interstate noise. The walls are thin, though, so the room was a bit noisy. My door was open and hadn’t latched, so I checked the whole room carefully. I noticed another unlatched door on the floor too.

St. Robert is an easy stop off Highway 44, and this is the hotel I’d pick. It’s a really good Fairfield, nicely renovated, and everything met or beat what we expected. Payton was friendly and very helpful when we checked in.

Cody got me checked in and settled really quickly, and the location is great. The one problem so far is the pool, it’s ice cold and doesn’t feel like the heater is on or working. That makes it pretty useless.
