Microtel Inn and Suites Brunswick

The staff were friendly, and for a traveling blue-collar worker who just needs a bed for the night, this place is fine. A weekend getaway is another matter. The property is dated and poorly kept: the elevator floor was sticky and dirty, the furniture looked like old public school furniture from the 1990s, and I kept finding other people's hair in the bathroom. I don't know whether cleaning was rushed or the staff were under so much stress they were losing hair. The rooms also cost twice what the maps app showed. I've been misled by this chain twice. I've had reasonable rates and good facilities at other stays, but this one didn't match that. The price seemed audaciously close to a Hilton Inn despite the lower quality. If I could do it again, I'd pay a few dollars more and stay with another chain.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the customer service was great. They even laughed off my mistake when I put my food plate in the coffee straw trash by accident. We stayed while moving and found the place cozy and fairly clean, with no frills. The breakfast was simple but good, and the price is hard to complain about. The dead plants outside and the pool looking dirty put me off at first, though I reminded myself it was January. It's a good fit if you're on a budget. I might not choose it for a honeymoon or vacation, but economy travelers get a lot for the price.

I was exhausted when I got there, and the gentleman at the desk found me a quiet room. It was newly renovated, really cute and clean, and the cable was great. The price was right too. If you're crossing the VA-NC border, stop here. You won't regret it.

The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff incredibly friendly. The location was excellent and the rates were cheap. It does look like renovations are underway: the bathroom had textured but unpainted walls, the toilet wobbled, and the armoire doors were loose at the bottom. Some things still showed this used to be a smoking hotel, including the telephone, alarm clock, and hair dryer, which had nicotine stains.
