As a chef, I don't say this lightly, but dinner at The Rooftop at Grounded at Ocean Lodge Resort blew me away. Our server was gracious and attentive, and Emily gave thoughtful recommendations and made us feel cared for all evening. A local jazz musician set an elegant, intimate, effortlessly cool mood. The meal started strong with the special, roasted bone marrow with collard green pesto and fig glaze. Rich and balanced, indulgent without feeling heavy. Even the bread service got us talking: my kids were wide-eyed when they realized the garlic butter was an edible candle. Clever and delicious. The entrees held up. My pistachio-crusted sea bass was perfectly cooked, flaky and moist, with roasted tomato and collard green risotto that had both depth and brightness. My wife's beef tips and rice, seared flank steak over mushroom and pea risotto, was comforting but elevated. My son's rack of lamb with roasted garlic potatoes and jalapeño mint jam was beautifully cooked, with just the right heat and freshness. Every plate felt precise and confident. Dessert was a treat too. The flourless chocolate cake was decadent without being too much, and the apple cinnamon bourbon shortcake tasted like autumn in a bowl. The strawberry brioche bread pudding was the showstopper. We took butter pecan cannolis back to the room, and they were still good for a late-night encore. Thanks to Chef Matt and Chef Terrence for a meal that'll be hard to top. If you're near St. Simons Island, don't miss it. Five stars isn't enough.

The rooftop dinner made our stay at Ocean Lodge Resort even more special. The setting was beautiful, elegant and intimate but still relaxed, and a local jazz musician played the night we went. The food was excellent from start to finish, with lovely presentation and flavors that felt both elevated and approachable. You can tell the kitchen cooks with care and creativity, and the meal made us want to slow down and savor each course. Our server was attentive and gracious, and Emily made sure we were comfortable and looked after. The hospitality felt genuine. The hotel itself was peaceful and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our rooms were immaculate, nicely appointed, and spacious enough for our family to relax. The ocean views were worth the trip, especially watching the light change through the day. The property feels thoughtfully designed and maintained. With so many places to stay and eat on St. Simons Island, this one stands out. It was more than a hotel visit or dinner, it was an experience we'll talk about for a long time. We can't wait to return.

Our adult getaway to see Christmas things and spend time together was perfect here. The resort and island were beautiful, and even though it rained all weekend, we had such a great time. It felt magical, almost like being in another country. The place was clean, spacious, and had the largest patio area, with the beach just steps away and several places to walk around nearby. The $300 security deposit caught us off guard, but it was returned quickly after we left. Hopefully we'll be back soon.

Terrance was very nice, and the location was great with beautiful balcony views. That's where the positives end. We stayed at Ocean Lodge at a discounted rate to hear about the timeshare opportunity, but the property looked like a dark Tuscan villa that hadn't been maintained. The floors were filthy, several lights didn't work, and the room wasn't very clean. There was no continental breakfast, and no housekeeping. The bedroom TV didn't work, the dishwasher didn't clean the dishes, and the walls needed paint. With some investment from the owners, it could be a real gem. As it is, I wouldn't stay again.

We left after about 15 minutes without ever ordering drinks, and no one noticed us go. The Christmas Eve dinner was supposed to be a chance to try the award-winning chef's food, but the evening went badly from the start. We'd booked for three and were given a table for two. When we asked for another chair, the man was rude, and he rudely refused to move us to an open table with more space. The place was dirty, food was uncovered in the elevator, and our table was so unsteady we'd have had to eat in our laps. I had to keep moving my extra chair so people could pass. The menu was much shorter than the one online, and I don't know why. We decided to leave and took our business to another restaurant. I'd suggest doing the same.
