SureStay Hotel by Best Western Brunswick

We'd been driving a long time through town and appreciated getting into the room a few hours before the usual check-in time. It cost an extra $20, but it was worth it to get some rest before another 10 hours on the road the next day. The bed was clean and comfortable. We did find very tiny ants around the sink and in the bathroom, plus one tiny bug on the nightstand that looked like a baby palmetto bug. I hope they get an exterminator in.

The location was convenient for food and the interstate, but the room was really bad. We were exhausted from the drive and would have gone somewhere else otherwise. The bed was broken, there was visible mold on the walls, and the smell was unpleasant, to say the least. We also found a lizard, though he was shy and seemed to stay behind the TV stand. The other reviews sounded decent, so we expected it wouldn't be that bad. I was wrong.

The owner accused us of smoking weed and tried to kick us out. We switched rooms at check-in because the headboard was covered in handprints, and the bed sheets had stains. I'm a recovered addict and have been clean for 8 years this July. Because I have severe paranoia, I cover blinking red lights in hotel rooms at night so I can sleep. I think they look like flashing cameras watching me, and covering them helps me keep from staying up all night. The owner apparently said covering the lights triggered a code. While we were out the next morning, they entered our room, found washcloths over the lights, and assumed we'd been smoking marijuana. This was the most embarrassing situation I've had. He called the police and made a big scene in front of our company when we raised it with him. We told him to call the police because we hadn't done anything wrong and had nothing illegal on us. Then he changed his mind and said we could stay or leave, but wouldn't get our money back. He gave us the room key and dismissed the officers when they arrived, since he knew he had no reason to make those allegations. The owner was completely unreasonable and an embarrassment to the hotel. I would not recommend it.

I left after four hours and didn't return for the second night. The lobby looked immaculate, but the room was filthy. There were stains on the sheets and yellow marks on the shower curtain, dirt on the walls and doors, and greasy fingerprints on the headboard and bedroom mirror. The microwave was caked with food, and dust and cobwebs were everywhere. Brown stains ran down the shower walls, and with the showerhead moved from its original spot, I had to stand against the wall to shower. Wires also hung from the ceiling where a light or smoke alarm had been. It felt like a pay-by-the-night place where nobody cleans. Only three other people seemed to be staying there. I emailed them and never heard back or got my money refunded. This is the absolute worst place I've ever stayed. Do not stay here.
