La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston Stafford Sugarland

We’d just left another hotel because it had roaches and mold, and this La Quinta was a relief. The clerk was incredibly friendly and let me and my two friends look at the room before we paid. We decided to book it right away. The building has a bit of late-80s character and is showing its age, but renovations are underway. That didn’t bother me. I’d happily recommend staying here, and I’m grateful to the staff who helped us out.

There’s a gym and laundry on site, and an IHOP right across the street. Breakfast was simple but good, with fruit, waffles, buns, muffins, and bread. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the hotel looked nice and new. It’s in Stafford, close to Sugarland. We had a good stay.

The location worked really well for the wedding we were attending, and we only stayed one night. Breakfast was okay, with good coffee and waffles, but the eggs and sausage weren’t cooked properly. The other uncooked options were plentiful. The room looked clean overall, though the old bathtub had stains and I had to wipe the toilet seat. The countertop was small, and the bedding felt overwashed. The place could use an upgrade.

This was the worst La Quinta I’ve stayed at, and I’ve been to a few. The whole place smelled of cigarettes or some other unpleasant substance, and my dad’s room had such a damp, choking odor that he had to leave the door open for air. The corridor carpets were dirty and smelled bad too. I saw people smoking in the lobby and just outside it. My dad checked out a day early, but they refused to refund him because the booking was prepaid. The staff were very rude. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told there was no other number to reach them at. The woman I spoke with dismissed me and said, “bye.” This was a terrible hotel booking experience, and I definitely won’t return.
