I was two weeks into a road trip and exhausted, hoping to shower and sleep. The front desk woman was kind at check-in and suggested a few places to eat, which I appreciated, but I’d already felt uneasy after overhearing staff talking among themselves. Later, a man and a woman came up to the desk. The woman seemed to have no pants on, and I assumed she might be part of housekeeping. That added to my concerns. The hallway to my room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, the carpet was very dirty, and guests were talking loudly along the way. The room smelled almost unbearable too. There were stains on the walls and floor, and the appliances looked like they’d been taken from an abandoned house. The refrigerator looked spray-painted. The shower was the cleanest part. The towels looked unwashed, with stains and hair stuck in the fibers, so I was glad I had my own. The bathroom door was coming apart, and bits of material were collecting on the floor. The bed linens were in bad shape, there were no blankets, just sheets, and the bed hadn’t been made. I slept briefly because I was so tired, then left as early as I could the next morning. The cabinets were falling apart too, and the workmanship throughout the room was poor. I’ll post photos to show what I mean.
