Loon River was accommodating and friendly. We got there around 940pm as the kitchen was closing, but they kept it open for us. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful, and their hospitality made a terrible night a little better. Thank you. We were there for our grandson’s birthday, and the rest of the stay was rough. The place was very busy and seemed full. People were screaming, kids ran up and down the halls banging on doors at 1am, and the room was not very clean. The towels smelled musty, bathroom tiles were missing, and the refrigerator didn’t work and had mold growing in it. Some parts of the water park weren’t working properly, including the slide and sprayers, and the lighting was poor. The chlorine was so strong it was hard to breathe. Two hours before closing, they shut it down for an hour to clean.

The lobby looked fine and most rooms seemed decent, but I’m not sure about the cleanliness. Our conference group had four people who couldn’t get into their rooms because nobody at the front desk explained that you have to turn the door handle upward. They also didn’t tell us part of the third floor was in shambles, and the whole floor smelled like vomit. One bed had no sheet, and its mattress was stained yellow. If I hadn’t carpooled and paid for the hotel myself, I would’ve left immediately.

The check-in and catered conference lunch were the best parts, and the desk clerks were very nice. The rest was disappointing. The elevator smelled like urine, and it took three requests to get the extra blanket I’d asked for several times. The room was clean, but I had to lean my shoulder into the door to open it. There weren’t many news options, and Fox News was glaringly absent. Dinner at the restaurant was barely edible. At the end, I went to the business centre to print a boarding pass and found the printer out of paper. I returned to the front desk, where someone put a stack of paper on the counter, apparently expecting me to load it. I figured out how to do that, but expecting a guest to handle it felt like poor customer service.

I’m here for an event and already don’t want to stay again. Check-in wasn’t until 4pm, which is late, and when I arrived at 5pm only two registration lines were open despite a large group checking in. The room smelled bad, and the bathroom light didn’t work. I called the front desk and was told the maintenance person was running late and wouldn’t arrive until 6:30. Why have maintenance come in so late after check-ins start, when things might need attention? I called six times to get the bathroom light fixed. He seems to have just wiggled it, because a couple of hours later it went out again. I moved a lamp from the living room into the bathroom so I could see to shower and brush my teeth.

The staff were rude, the dishes were dirty, and one girl found plastic and hair in her food. We waited an hour for the main course after the salad and bread. The sound system was minimal too, just one speaker for a room that held over 500 people. This center was great when we had our wedding reception there 10 years ago, but now it’s in poor shape. The sky walk is being torn down. They should have closed for a remodel and reopened afterward.
