American Inn

A few of us from work stayed here for 4-5 weeks straight on business. The grounds and paths were kept clean, and our rooms were serviced daily and stayed spotless. Management was helpful throughout. We'd gladly come back.

My van broke down while I was driving back from a trip with my three daughters. We could only coast as far as this Inn's parking lot, then the girls and I pushed the van into a space. My husband set off on the hour-and-a-half drive to rescue us. The manager watched us on camera and sent the night staff member out. He accused me of making up the car trouble, said we were trespassing, and threatened to call the police and press charges. I tried to explain, but he showed no kindness or compassion. He also wouldn't let me speak to the manager on the phone to explain what had happened. We were stranded after dark in an unfamiliar place, far from home, yet I was treated like a criminal instead of a mother trying to get help for her daughters. I've never experienced such a complete lack of understanding from another person. So we had to push the van out of the lot and onto the shoulder of a busy highway to avoid being charged with trespassing. I can't speak to the condition of the inn, but I can say the management showed no regard for other people. American Inn may try to have Google remove this post for bullying. I strongly ask that it stay up because this is a truthful account, and I would swear to it under oath. It was a horrible, crushing experience for my daughters and me.

For the price, it was pretty reasonable, and there was free WiFi. They allow smoking, as the ash trays in the room show. The lipstick mark on the sheets added a bit of lived-in comfort. The A/C unit looks like it may date back to when the property was built, so give it about 15 minutes to cool the room. You might need to open the door a few times to get air moving. The pay-per-view selection has a few hidden gems, so it's worth checking out.

The place was extremely dirty, with grime along the baseboards, on the carpet, and throughout the bathroom. I was exhausted, so I might have overlooked it if the online listing hadn't said $55 and that pets were accepted. At check-in the price went up to $75, and pets weren't accepted after all. I could maybe understand the no-pets policy if the place were nice, but my house-trained dog wouldn't have made that dirty room any worse. I'm in town for work often and usually stay in Scottsborow, then drive to Stevenson. That's what I'll do every time from now on.
