Sun Retreats Avalon

The ladies in the office and camp store were extremely nice, but I wasn’t impressed with Sun Retreats Avalon for what it costs. The sites were just okay at best. We paid over $150 a night, and I’ve never spent so much on a campground. I expected more for that price. We could’ve stayed at Thousand trails around the corner for half as much. We paid a little over $100 a night to stay by the water at the lake Ontario Sun Retreats, and that campground is much nicer.

A typical "down the shore" campground, but the Wi-Fi and cable are awful and need an upgrade. Even paying extra each month for better Wi-Fi doesn’t help. Mosquitoes are everywhere, even in broad daylight, and you’ll get covered as soon as you leave your trailer or car. They’re too cheap to spray.

I’ve never heard of paying to park just to visit a campground. It came to $30 for two people, $10 per person plus $10 to park the car. Camping is already expensive, and now they’re charging family who come to visit $10 to park and $10 to get in. I understand paying to visit, but charging for parking too is crazy. It’s not an amusement park. Our family likes to come see the campground and check it out, but now they have to pay to park. Just sad and greedy. I won’t be telling anybody to go there. Way to go, campground.

The atmosphere here is wonderful, and the staff are all so friendly, helpful, and nice. We stayed in a cottage that seemed perfect for four and had everything we needed. It was so clean that I never even used the antibacterial wipes I’d brought along. When the cleaning team was working in the cottage next door, they kindly asked whether we needed supplies or anything else. Our kids had an amazing time trying lots of new activities, and the swim lake lifeguard was attentive and caring. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back. Thanks for such a great experience.
