Stonewall Motor Lodge

The back area was a real highlight for our family, with seating and a “barn” that had a fridge, TV, and more places to sit. We also enjoyed the retro decor and hearing about the place’s history. At first, pulling in made us wonder what we’d gotten into since we usually stay in hotels, but the room turned out to be very nice. The shower was frustrating: I’m 5 feet tall, couldn’t adjust it, and the pressure wasn’t great, perhaps because it was so high. It was a wonderful visit overall.

The location suits us well for doing things in Fredericksburg, Hye, and Johnson City, and we even spotted deer by the woods. This stay was a pleasant improvement over our visit in late June 2025, when the cabin hadn’t been very clean. This time it smelled freshly cleaned and sanitized when we arrived. A few things still bothered us: the shower curtain was stained and felt icky, and the coffee maker needed cleaning, so we skipped it. Glass shower doors could make the place cleaner and more appealing. The TV had a bad delay, though that wasn’t a big deal. The water was only warm at best on a night around 40 degrees outside, which may have affected it. We’d stay again.

Stonewall Motor Lodge is our little secret when we head to Texas Wine Country or pick up wine club orders. We’ve stayed in “The Press Room” several times and enjoy the LBJ nostalgia and all the fun old photos. It’s convenient, clean, comfortable, and a great price. My wife and I love the place and look forward to coming back.

For our pre-Christmas trip to the Hill country, this cabin was a cute, clean place to stay. The updated retro style was charming, and the bed was comfortable. It’s surrounded by wineries and sits about halfway between Fredericksburg and Johnson City.
