Hampton Inn Stow

I tried booking this hotel for a dance competition after finding it on Google, and this has happened several times: the number takes you to “hotel Reservations,” not the hotel itself. The people you reach don’t even have an English accent, which felt shady. I wasn’t the only one who ran into this. They also charged me $30 for cancellation insurance. Two weeks before the competition, I wanted to shorten the reservation by a day, but they wouldn’t refund that night.

The room matched what was advertised, and we had a very nice stay in Stow. Staff were courteous, professional, and knowledgeable, and helped me with a couple of things. We’ll probably stay here again.

My room had peeling ceiling paint, old carpet, and moldy caulk in the bathroom. This feels like a tired, old hotel. Housekeeping was meant to come every other day, but I stayed five days and they never came. When I brought it up at checkout, nobody apologized. Next time I’m in Stow, I’ll probably look at the Fairfield instead. It’s newer and has a good restaurant across the street.

The location is good, next to the Cleveland Clinic in Akron, but the cleanliness was awful. There was black mold by the shower handle and soap shelf. The room floor was so dirty our feet turned black. The pool was filthy too, with hair, wrappers, and chunks of debris all through the water. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while.
