Hampton Inn Stroudsburg/Poconos

There were only two towels in a room for four, so we had to go downstairs for more after settling in. Housekeeping was meant to come every other day but never visited during our four-day stay, even after we called twice. The second-shift front desk attendant said it “wasn’t her problem to fix.” A lot of the facilities were out of service: both ice machines on every floor, part of the first-floor bathroom, and one of the two elevators. The pool stayed closed the whole time because its heater was broken. We were told it would be fixed before we left, but that didn’t happen; they mentioned the holidays and a part being on order. The parking spaces were icy, even though the driving lanes had been cleared, making it hazardous to walk. Breakfast was okay, but the older attendant was rude and brought down the mood. There weren’t enough seats either. We visit PA every New Year’s weekend and won’t stay here again. Avoid this place!

We’ve usually liked Hampton Inn and stayed there consistently over the years, but this property was a mess, with breakfast and the tea station often missing things. The front desk staff were incredibly rude and wouldn’t help with even small requests. When there was no hot water, I waited 20 minutes for someone to come to the desk. One person said she couldn’t bring hot water. When I asked who could, she started yelling, called someone, and said that person wouldn’t serve me because I was rude. The next person was demeaning, told me to calm down and leave the desk, and threatened to throw me out. When I said she couldn’t, she replied, “watch me,” and called the police. All I’d asked for was hot water for my two kids. The police came and said it was ridiculous and uncalled for, but that we had to leave if staff didn’t want us there. It felt like the desk staff were abusing their power because they didn’t want to do their job. I won’t return to Hampton Inn. Shame on this property. They should be more careful about who they hire.

I had to cancel a stay I’d booked for my son’s birthday after something unfortunate came up. I paid ahead through Expedia and thought I’d already canceled, but when an upcoming reservation email arrived, I canceled immediately. I was still charged. I’d contacted the other Stroudsburg hotel and was told there would be no charge, but that turned out to be the wrong property. This hotel wouldn’t make any exception or refund me, citing the strict policy created by its franchise. Be careful.

The rooms were excellent and easy to get to, the pool area was very clean, and the service was friendly. Breakfast was the usual good free hotel breakfast. The main drawback was that half the machines in the laundry room were broken. Some of us Gold members choose where to stay based on having self-serve laundry.
