Marriott Hutchinson Island Resort & Beach Villas, Golf & Marina

I thought I’d booked a room overlooking the beach, but it faced a car park. The gap between what was advertised and what we got felt like a bait and switch, and I wouldn’t come back. At check-in, the receptionist didn’t seem interested and offered no explanation of the resort. The restaurant doesn’t stay open all day. There were too many kids around the pool without adult supervision, and several were rollerblading there, which didn’t seem safe. Music bingo required audience participation, the last thing I want on vacation, and hardly anyone joined in. The General Manager’s response was disappointing. None of the issues I raised were addressed, and I got only a vague promise to “make my next visit memorable.” The resort already had a chance to give me a memorable stay, and it failed.

The staff were lovely throughout, from the golf cart guys to the breakfast buffet waitress. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Still, the resort felt somewhat outdated, even though I think it had been renovated recently. We stayed in the main building. I also wasn’t comfortable with how easy it seemed for anyone to walk in off the street and use either pool. It didn’t feel as private or resort-like as I’d hoped, and that raised a safety concern for me.

We were in the area touring homes as we get ready to relocate, and staying at Marriott Hutchinson Shores was a lovely experience. The room was great, and both the front desk and breakfast staff were so friendly and welcoming. The hotel was comfortable and accommodating, especially for our dog traveling with us. We only wish we’d had more time to enjoy the restaurants and amenities on the property. We’d happily stay again.

Lunch at the poolside tiki bar was delicious. We shared fish dip, shrimp cocktail, a soft shell crab sandwich, and a lobster roll between three of us. Cheryl, the bartender, was fantastic and fun to chat with. It was only a two minute walk back to our room, and afterward we relaxed in the hot tub listening to the waves. Lisa made check-in especially nice. She was personable and explained what the resort offered, and we were upgraded to the oceanfront building with a lovely sea-view balcony. The room was spacious and sparkling clean, the beds were comfy, and breakfast omelette was really good. Check-out was a breeze. We enjoyed it so much and will definitely be back.
