Rodeway Inn Surfside Beach

The location is good, just off Highway 17 and about a ten-minute walk from the beach. But this was by far the worst budget hotel I've seen, and I stay in them all the time. Spend a little extra and stay somewhere else. I was there with my boyfriend over the long weekend. The room was dirty, and the carpets need replacing. I didn't want to step on them without shoes. The door handle was broken, and the cleaning did not seem thorough at all. We found a bathrobe and a cooler in the fridge, presumably left by a previous guest. The woman at reception in the morning was rude.

It was close to the beach and reasonably priced, but I wouldn't recommend staying here unless it's a last resort. The office staff were completely unprofessional. The only man working there didn't want to help at all and was extremely rude and mean to guests. When I came in for a late check-in, he was cursing and threatening to walk out and leave us standing there without our rooms. Cleaning service never came to our room during the stay, and we were given only two towels for four people. One morning I woke up with mysterious bites all over my arms and legs. There were blood smears on the beds, and I found bugs nearby that I recognized as bed bugs. We left as quickly as we could, went home, and washed everything in hot water.

The bathroom ceiling was leaking and covered in red-looking mud. I told the owner, who said someone would come over in an hour, but nobody showed up. When I asked for a full refund, he argued and said he would have to send it to management. I pointed out that he was the owner, and he looked dumbfounded. The rooms are nasty, and the bathroom was nasty too. Don't book here. They only want your money. I'll be sending a complaint to Choice Hotels.

Worst place I've ever stayed. I don't believe they clean these rooms at all, and the staff were horrible, extremely rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. The shelf in our room was a dresser drawer front with the handle still on the bottom. I couldn't tell you how long the shower curtain had been there. I told them part of the bathtub was broken, and they said the store across the street probably sold the part and I should fix it. My room key stopped working, so I needed it reset. They told me to get my things and leave before they called the police, just because I needed a working key to get into my room. I'd already paid for the next three days, but they wouldn't refund me and made me leave. They need to be shut down.
