Economy Inn Sylva

The motel is about a block from downtown Sylva, and the creek behind it was lovely. We could open the back window and hear the water. The owner, a very nice Indian man, worked with us on a non-standard check-in time. It's an old roadside place that shows its age outside, and it doesn't have the fancy decor or extra amenities of chain hotels. But the renovated rooms were very clean, with tile floors even in the bedroom, and everything worked. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were good quality and clean, and the small bathroom was functional and clean too. For a good price, it has what you need, close to downtown. We liked it enough to book for next month during WCU Homecoming.

You can get some rest here, but the room wasn't convenient. There was no morning coffee or ice machine, the bed sounded like the springs were broken, and the shower was dark. The sink is separate from the toilet and shower, but there's no vanity, so I used the mirror near the bed to get ready. Worst part was the strong cigarette smell. With my allergies and health problems, I could barely stay in the room.

The rooms are very old, but it was somewhere to sleep, and the river behind the units is scenic. Unfortunately, we found cockroaches, reported it, and they did nothing. I can't recommend it.

Nothing fancy, but the price was good and it had what we needed, including a fridge and microwave. Nicely remodeled, well cared for, comfortable, and clean, with pleasant staff. You can park right outside your room, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The railroad tracks didn't bother us at all. We stayed three days and never heard a train, though I don't know the schedule. Great stay, I'd come back.
