Pepper Tree Inn

The location worked well for us, with shops, restaurants, and the lake all an easy walk away, and it was quiet during our stay. But the room was pretty uncomfortable: only one outlet worked, there were stains on the bathroom wall, and the fan was so dusty we didn't want to use it. The thin, springy beds left both my mom and me with sore backs in the morning. It did the job for one night, though I don't think I'd come back.

I would never stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The whole visit felt like an ordeal because of the poor standards, lack of hospitality, and general neglect. It was one of my most disappointing travel experiences. The care, comfort, and professionalism were so lacking.

It was frustrating to arrive and find the office unavailable until 3:00 p.m.; guests need a way to reach someone during the day. I also saw no pool or business center, although both were advertised. The woman appears to live in room 108, with her family, children, and dogs two doors away. At check-in, the woman at the office was rude and dismissive to the people waiting. She kept slamming signs on the counter pointing to four o'clock, and seemed more bothered by a car parked at a slight angle than by the customers. After a while she calmed down and became a little more humble, but she really needs to treat people, especially older guests, more politely. I won't stay here again.

Being near the beach was convenient, and the front desk woman was kind and helpful. I don't blame her for the price or the condition of the place. Still, this felt like a rip-off, and I won't book again. The listing showed a pool and a much nicer motel, but the property was old and worn, with dirt in the pool. There was no breakfast, either. For almost $200 a night, I expected air conditioning. The rooms didn't have it, and leaving the windows open meant dealing with outside noise, so I couldn't get restful sleep. I came to relax and didn't feel relaxed here.
