Howard Johnson by Wyndham Tallahassee

We chose this place because the listing said breakfast was included, but at check-in we were told they don't do breakfast. The photos also look nothing like the actual place. There were cockroaches in both the room and lobby. Our room had no towels or bed covers. We had to call out for maintenance and waited maybe 10-15 minutes before getting towels. We were still waiting a long time for covers. Another guest, fresh off the bus, was left outside in the cold because the lobby was locked and nobody was there. When someone finally helped, he said there were no rooms left, even though she had a reservation and had already paid. Terrible experience. Don't waste your money here.

The staff have been friendly, helpful, and pleasant with us. When something broke, they fixed it right away, and when a customer wasn't happy, they tried to make things right. It looks like new management is working hard to keep guests content, and they're doing a great job. Their effort deserves credit. The location is ideal for heading out to local businesses and shopping. I'd read a lot of reviews before staying, but seeing the employees' service and dedication for myself was something else. Well done to the staff.

I booked through Priceline and picked the cheapest rate to save money. I should've paid a few dollars more per night and stayed somewhere else. The staff were friendly and got me checked in quickly, but the room was as basic as it gets. The TV and one light wouldn't turn on, the main outlet didn't work, and there was no hot water. The toilet seat wasn't properly attached, and there was no soap, shampoo, or other amenities. I had to ask for a towel after I got to the room.

The bed was comfortable and the room stayed quiet, which were the things I needed. The man at the desk was very friendly, and when I checked in around 8 pm he said the TV needed replacing and had it taken care of before I reached the room. Still, the Roku didn't work for about 45 minutes after the first 15 or so. The front door had a “No walk-ins” sign, while the sign outside said “Better than we were.” The room itself needs work: a small hole in the wall, a badly worn chair covering, peeling paint on the door, a dirty floor, and just a sheet on the bed. The cable outlet plate was hanging loose. Breakfast wasn't available, and the room meant for it was being used for storage and badly needed renovation. The man at the desk was still there at 9 am checkout. The bed bugs, however, were definitely unnecessary. I had over a dozen bites on my neck and shoulder, which makes me think they were in the pillows.
