The location just off 75 is decent, and I made it through the night, which earned this place its one star. Inside the room, the renovation looked like it happened before 1996. The towels were so thin they were practically see-through. The toilet paper sat on top of the toilet because its holder had been ripped off the wall, and the shower shampoo holder and the soap holder by the sink were gone too. The faucet was barely attached beneath the counter and seemed ready to come loose. The pillows felt like they were stuffed with palm fronds from some past hurricane. The AC technically ran, but sounded like a C-130 coming in to land. On arrival I passed a few homeless people sleeping just outside, and inside there was a smell like dank weed mixed with sweaty gym socks. That was the only redeeming feature of a truly awful hotel.
The front desk worker at check-in was rude, though the morning employee was really nice. The hotel was dirty and badly in need of attention, with moldy ceiling tiles, filthy floors and thick dust on the fixtures. Our trip was for a wedding, so changing hotels wasn’t an option. I travel solo a lot, and I’d tell women not to stay here alone. The neighborhood isn’t great, but what really shocked me was housekeeping opening the door at 9:30 without knocking, even though checkout was at 11. I should’ve used the top security lock, but still, that was crazy. The AC barely worked. This would be my last choice if I needed a place again.
The interstate noise kept waking us up, so we got more interrupted sleep than rest. The photos when I booked showed a great breakfast with waffles and sausage, but what they actually served was only dried toast and bagels. They should update those pictures. We also saw roaches, and I hope we didn’t bring any home. No housekeeping came during our stay: no fresh towels or sheets, and the trash wasn’t emptied. I could have paid the same amount for somewhere much better. I can’t believe I spent over $80 a night for what felt like a $20 room. Don’t stay here. I don’t know how it’s still open.
I felt unsafe for both nights and couldn’t wait to leave. The area didn’t have many restaurants, and there were some very sketchy people around the hotel, along with homeless people throughout the neighborhood, which was sad to see. At 1 a.m. on the second night, a loud sound went through the building like a machine gun. I never found out what it was. There were roaches in the bathroom, and the advertised free coffee and light breakfast weren’t available. The only clean-looking thing was the bedding, which seemed and smelled fresh. Everything else was dirty and neglected: the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, the toilet and tub were visibly dirty, the stained shower curtain made me get cleaning supplies before using it, and toilet paper stuffed in the sink drain caused it to back up. The building and common area looked run down and smelled horrible. I hadn’t realized the neighborhood was so rough when I booked. I don’t know how this motel gets any business, and I couldn’t wait to check out.
Convenient location near major highways and the airport, and parking was free. The Days Inn on 50th Street in Ybor City, Tampa was clean and well maintained, with welcoming staff who were friendly and ready to help. There’s no filtered water refill station, but you can buy bottled water on site. It was a comfortable visit and good value, with attentive service.
