The way the government rate was handled left a bad impression. At check-in I was questioned in a rude, suspicious way, as if I were trying to use it for leisure. Nobody professionally asked me for particular paperwork. I understand that a hotel may verify eligibility, but the assumptions and confrontational tone were unnecessary. Management followed up later, but didn't address the condition of the room and still suggested I had misused the rate. It came across as defending the hotel instead of apologizing. That was on top of a rough arrival: my first room smelled strongly of rotten eggs, and the closet door fell inward when I opened it. After a long travel day, I had to ask right away to move rooms. The desk staff did move me, but barely acknowledged how unacceptable the room was. Between the room problems, staff's manner, and management's response, this was one of my most disappointing Hilton stays. I travel often for work and rarely post a negative review, but I won't return. Government employees in particular may want to look at other places around Tampa.

The room was comfy and really clean, and the staff were friendly. Janice at the front desk showed me how to get to the trolley, which I appreciated. We walked around Ybor city after Gasparilla. Parking was limited, but I had prepaid when I reserved. Breakfast was hot in the morning. Awesome, and a clean hotel too.

For the price, the location is hard to beat. You can walk around Ybor City or take the free streetcar, and the hotel itself felt clean and up to date. Allie (?) at the front desk was especially accommodating and lovely to deal with. The sink faucet was awkwardly placed off to the side and didn't reach very far, so washing your hands was a bit of a struggle. The shower curtain also stopped short of the tub, leaving water all over the floor after a shower. Still, it was a great value.

We used the shuttle to the port for our cruise, and Migue Maldonado made the ride a highlight. He was wonderful, sharing Tampa's history and ideas for things to do in town and on the ship. After we returned, they picked us up, held our luggage, and waited while we had time before our flight. The front desk team were friendly and helpful from the beginning, and the rooms were very clean. I'd recommend staying here.

The location is fantastic, with all of Ybor easy to reach on foot, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. The gym was average. I liked the rooms, but the bathroom sink was ridiculous, nearly impossible to use.
