La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Tampa Bay Area-Tampa South

The room had gray hair on a towel and more hair on the bed. There were also what looked like water damage on the walls and a couple of large holes in one door, so it needs both better cleaning and repairs. Service was good, and breakfast was decent. We got a very low room price, but the many positive reviews had led us to expect more. I wouldn't stay again.

The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and they offered snacks and treats to the kids. The bathroom was clean, had plenty of towels, and came with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The sheets, pillows, and blankets were clean too, but the bed was very hard and the floor had sand all over it, like it hadn't been swept in a while. The pool was ice cold and had leaves and other trash in it. The parking lot is small, and there was only one ice machine, on the second floor. Breakfast was a stretch to call free. The only somewhat hot food was scrambled eggs and a sausage patty, apart from coffee. There were four juice flavors, but they all tasted like water with a spoonful of food coloring. There was cereal and a waffle maker. The room also had a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. The location was okay, but the hotel felt overpriced. They charged a $7.14-per-night tourism development tax even though my ID is from Florida, and a $100 deposit that would be returned after about a week. On my first night, a loud, belligerent homeless person walked the halls knocking on doors. I don't think I'd stay here again.

We couldn't wait to get out and even thought about accepting the loss and going somewhere else. The front desk service was awful, the pool was dirty and gross, and our room had several roaches and stained bedding. There was also a musty smell.

Ask for WAFI. Even at a late hour, he made check-in easy and comfortable, which made the stay nicer before I even got to the room. The location, price, and quality are hard to beat. Great people and good staff. This is the spot if you want quality.
