Sunny South Motel

I checked in to sunny south motel on Friday the 29th of May, though I was away most of the day. When we returned at night and were getting ready for bed, I felt bites and started itching around my legs. We found bedbugs on the bed. I couldn’t stop itching and felt bitten all over, so we left around 3am for my parents’ house, the closest place to the motel. I have pictures to prove what happened. When I asked the front office for a refund, he refused because I had checked in. He said he’d already refunded me, but he had charged me twice and only issued one refund, and wouldn’t give another. I’d noticed the sheets were dirty before leaving in the middle of the night. Later we came back to check that we hadn’t forgotten anything, and someone had cleaned the room, but the sheets and pillowcases were still the same. The outlets didn’t work, and neither did the TV. We had to charge our phones in the car.

Please don’t stay here, it was a nightmare. I booked the motel online, and from the moment I arrived the owner treated me like trash. I didn’t understand his attitude because I’m American, but he didn’t seem to like me. Two hours later he came to my room and said he’d call the police because I was making too much noise, which wasn’t true. I said I’d wait for them, but the police never came. At the office, he said I had to respect his rules even when they were wrong. His wife was talking like a poppy. I told them this is the United States, not the country they came from, and that the United States protects women and respects our lives. This motel is trash. Please don’t come here.

Roaches were crawling around the rooms, and I left rather than spend a second night. I’d booked three nights but only stayed one because the rooms were so dirty. The shower wouldn’t drain, the floors turned my feet black, the furniture was stained, the lights didn’t work, and the ceiling tiles had marks. If you bring electronics, make sure to break your cable so it’s only two-pronged, because the rooms still have outlets from the 80s. One lightning strike could take out every electronic item you own. I took the financial loss instead of staying, and would say save your money and don’t book here.

I’ve been traveling to tampa for the past 6 years and usually stay a month or longer. I’m honestly surprised this place is open when they DO NOT RENT OUT ROOMS. Yes, you read that right.
