Alaska Kozey Cabins

We paid $500 for two nights, and I expected better for that price. The cabin itself has potential, but it was not very clean and the beds were uncomfortable. The listing said two queen beds and a futon. What they call a futon is a reclining chair with an ottoman that slides up to it, which might work for a small child but wouldn’t work for me. The Rinnai tankless water heater kept running for a couple of minutes, shutting off and leaving us with cold water, then starting up again after several minutes. I also smelled gas fumes in the bathroom while it was on. There’s an extension cord running through a hole in the bathroom floor to power it, which made me wonder whether it was professionally installed and whether it meets Alaska building code. I used to host on AirBnB, so I know what goes into making guests comfortable, and this place fell short in several ways. Next time I’ll pay a bit more for a reputable resort nearby. We also didn’t feel safe leaving our belongings there while we went out, so we packed everything up and took it with us. On our first night, I saw someone on the porch while watching TV. When I opened the door, they said they were looking for somewhere, but the address they gave wasn’t even on the same street. I looked it up after they left, and it was a run-down apartment building about a quarter mile away. I’m pretty sure they were squatters looking for an empty cabin to break into. The front door had several deep marks along the edge, as if someone had tried to pry it open with a crowbar, which already made us uneasy. Since the stay was listed as non-refundable, we had little choice but to stay, though taking all our things along was a hassle. Before that, the road in was in poor shape. I know Alaska had a very rainy summer, which makes road maintenance harder, but they could at least bring in gravel and fill the holes. Check-in was another problem: no instructions or other information arrived, and we didn’t even know which cabin we had. I had to call the owners, though they replied quickly and sent the details right away. It was OK, but definitely not great. With better attention to detail and added security, the cabin could be a comfortable place for guests.

I had questions before booking because I didn’t want to reserve a cabin, then cancel and lose money. I couldn’t get anyone on the phone or get a return call. The recording says they’ll call back, but no one ever did.

The cabins are quiet and give you plenty of privacy, and the management was nice and professional. They’re roomy, clean, and absolutely cute. This was our family’s first trip to Alaska, and we had a great mini vacation. Whenever we come back, this will be our go-to place if there’s an opening. Thanks, Kozey Cabins. I can’t say enough good things about the place.

We loved the comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and quiet, park-like setting. The kozy cabins are beautiful and well maintained, and the hosts were friendly. Wayne, his wife, and their dogs were wonderful. We enjoyed our daily visits with Redneck and Riley. Thanks so much for letting us wash our motorcycles, and thanks to Jenni for letting us extend our stay by several days. Mack's Char Shack Fusion BBQ is worth a try. The gourmet BBQ was the best we’ve had! The location is close to everything you need to enjoy this part of Alaska.
