There aren’t many places to choose from in taylorville, but I saw plenty of signs this might not be a pleasant stay. The lobby door only opened about five and a half inches because the concrete hit its bottom, and it set off an alarm. The room wasn’t terrible, but it was hard to keep warm, and the water wouldn’t stay hot long enough for a decent shower. You could clearly see the door had recently been kicked in. We’d had about ten inches of snow two weeks earlier, and it was all still in the parking lot.

Check-in was easy, but the floors and bathroom were filthy, and there were roaches. Both mornings, around 8 or 8:30, the older man cleaning rooms just opened our door while I was still in bed. I wasn’t happy about that. My husband and I stayed two nights for his work trip.

After a three-hour drive, we checked in and got settled. In the morning, I found cockroaches on the ceiling and moving around the sink by the coffee pot. My son and his family were in the next room, and he’d seen three roaches that night as well. I complained at the lobby and was told I’d get a refund, but they never refunded anything. The place was nasty and gross, and should be condemned for the bug infestation.

We stayed three nights and just checked out. The rooms were very clean and the service was very good. I highly recommend this place, and we’ll definitely stay here next time we’re in town.

I travel a lot and was a little nervous after reading the reviews. I’m more of a Hilton person, but there aren’t many options nearby, and I was pleasantly surprised. The room seemed renovated and was pretty clean, with plenty of space and a fairly comfortable bed and pillows. The price felt a little high for a Super 8, though everything else in life is expensive right now. All in all, a solid four stars for what it is.
