Dixie Plaza Hotel

It’s an older place, so the furniture and other things look dated, but the rates are very reasonable compared with similar places here and elsewhere. There are a few small issues, though nothing serious enough to cause problems. They’re also very dog friendly, and at rates that can still make it cheaper to stay here with your dog than elsewhere without one. Quite a few people live here by the week because of the affordable housing shortage, which is happening across the country. Places that used to be available to rent as homes are now only for sale, or rented to LMU students or tourists at much higher rates than regular families or permanent residents can pay, however small the properties are.

The owners were really kind and friendly. Still, our room had lots of roaches and dirty sheets, so we spent the one night sleeping on top of the comforters with our own blankets. I wouldn’t want to discourage people from staying, since this is a family business and their only source of income. If you only need a place for one night and won’t be spending much time in the room beyond sleeping, it may be worth the price.

We drove more than four hours and couldn’t even rest. I paid for two nights but didn’t stay. There were roaches everywhere: around the bathtub, in the refrigerator, and crawling over paperwork in the lobby. Hair covered the sheets, and the beds and bedding were horribly stained. The lobby smelled awful too. The woman was nice when we arrived, but she had no shoes on. Once we got into the room, she had locked up, so we couldn’t even tell her about what we’d found. I was so frustrated. It was the nastiest place I’ve ever seen, a waste of time and money. Don’t stay here. These are the photos I managed to snap quickly in the lobby.

The rooms weren’t very clean. If you call for towels, you still have to go pick them up.
