Stores close early, so plan ahead if you’re hiking or need something for the evening. We loved the terrific breakfast, sitting by the fire, playing games, and meeting other people. Charlene and Grace were so welcoming and wonderful, and we enjoyed hearing about the family and its history. Such kind people, and a charming, comfortable stay with a stunning view from the backyard.

We spent much of a day just relaxing here because the place felt so peaceful. The lodge is on a several thousand acre ranch, with bison grazing on one side and a river winding beneath the red cliffs on the other. On a private trail beside the river, we took an hour long hike and saw dozens of huge trout in the sandy shallows, golden eagles over the red rocks, and swallows flying through the tall grass marshes. Charlene was a gracious host and served delicious breakfasts each morning in the lodge restaurant. The rooms are not large, but the ranch style furniture and artwork are lovely. The big lobby feels welcoming and rustic, and I finished several evenings warming up by the wood fire. When we vacation, we like our lodging to fit the scenery and culture around it, so our stay feels like part of the experience. If that’s what you’re after while exploring Capital Reefs National Park, this is the place.

The rooms could use fridges, which I wish they had. The staff were very nice and accommodating, though, and we loved relaxing in the hot tub. Every night there was a nice fire going in the fireplace, making the place feel cozy. The location is serene, and the red rocks from our balcony were amazing.

This beautiful lodge felt like a special experience, with family legacy, comfort, and care all surrounded by pure natural beauty. I’d highly recommend it.

We keep coming back to The Lodge at Red River Ranch. Our favorite rooms are the ones with balconies facing the red rock cliffs, and Charlene Van Dyke and her family are wonderful hosts.
