Motel 6 Texarkana, TX

We ended up cancelling the rest of our stay. In the first room from our online reservation, the air conditioner didn't work. The second room's AC worked, but it was too cold. When my husband showered in the morning, there was strangely no cold water at all, just straight hot water. The shower wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, and the beds were bad enough that my back hurt all night. The front desk said workers were cooking and drinking under the trees directly across from our room. We couldn't hear them inside, thankfully, but I worried about a fire.

The gentleman at the front desk and his staff helped us so much this evening, and we're very grateful to them. It feels like most people don't care about others anymore, so their kindness meant a lot. We can't thank them enough.

I booked a non-smoking room on the hotel's website. At reception I was told only one room was left, and it smelled bad, had cigarette burns, and didn't match the pictures. They said there was just one other room, at a higher rate, and we agreed to that. Then they told us that because it was being renovated, like the room in the pictures, they'd charge cash for each dog. We had no other option at that hour, so we agreed. They had no shampoo in the room. When I turned on the AC, it smelled terrible, smoke came out, and the fire alarm started going off. Then the staff member said there was another room after all, despite having told us there was only one left. They moved us without a problem. I don't think the administrators are very honest. It felt like they just wanted to charge more, even in cash for our dogs, though our dogs are trained not to pee or poop inside.

They let me check in early, which was wonderful after driving overnight for 13 hours. The room I got hadn't been refurbished, though, and the online pictures didn't accurately show it. Nothing inside seemed new. The bedspread was ripped and had cigarette burns, as did the bathroom counter. The two lampshades didn't match, and both were yellow and dirty. The bulbs didn't work, so I bought replacements. The bed was very firm, and the pillows were yellow and not very good, with yellow pillowcases too. It wasn't awful, and I'd stay again, but I'd bring my own sheets and pillows next time.
