The Dalles Inn

For the price, it was a decent stay. The service was great, and our king bed was okay.

The room itself was disappointing: it smelled moldy, the ceiling was dirty and cracking, and enamel was peeling from the tub. There was no desk or table, and it felt cramped even for two people, let alone three. My daughter had arranged the stay as part of a birthday present for my husband and me. I had recommended The Dalles Inn because I'd stayed there twice before and liked it, and I especially wanted an elevator because my husband has emphysema and COPD. Instead, we were put on the second floor of another building, the former Tapadera Motel, in the room farthest from the hotel. When we asked to move, they said there was nothing they could do because we'd booked through AAA and prepaid. Breakfast the next morning was dry cereal, bagels, apples, and coffee. There was only one table and it was occupied, so we ate sitting on our beds. We left well before checkout. They got our money but lost our trust. We won't return to The Dalles Inn, and we'll tell friends and family to avoid it.

I never made it inside, and woke up to a charge on my card after being told I wouldn't be charged until check-in. I'd looked the hotel up online, was excited to stay and see it, and booked when I saw free cancellation. The person I spoke with was helpful. I confirmed when booking that my card wouldn't be charged before I arrived. I also explained I was on call and might have to work, and was told again that payment would wait until check-in. We got there at 5:30 pm, and I was called into work just as we pulled into the parking lot, so we never checked in. I felt robbed and was very unhappy. I planned to speak to the manager the next day and update the review. I was told they weren't in that day, but I expected it would be resolved. UPDATE: The manager fixed it first thing in the morning and called me. He was so kind and lifted my spirits on a rough day. He gave me hope that customer service isn't dead. I will be back. I'd like to go through once they're done remodeling and post some fresh inside pics. Thanks, guys. See you soon!

The room was dirty, and I wouldn't stay here. Beside the toilet, it looked like a previous guest had peed on the wall, and it had splashed onto the toilet paper roll. When I turned off the AC, the room smelled like urine. The floors were filthy, and there were pubic hairs all over the bathroom floor, sink, and tub. The building being old would have been easy to overlook, but the dirt wasn't. I should ask for my money back. Instead, I'll warn other travelers not to spend any time here.
