Quality Inn Thermopolis Near Hot Springs

The bathroom and general upkeep were poor, and the sink had cold water coming from the left side of the faucet. The HVAC filters were dirty and broken. I was first assigned a smoking room, which I hadn't realized motels still had, and its smoke detector was disconnected. After moving, I found both mattresses sagged with impressions from previous guests. Check-in took over 10 minutes because a new desk worker was training while another guest was being checked in. I wouldn't book somewhere that allows smoking, and the building's condition would make me choose another place next time I'm in Thermopolis.

The pool and spa were spotless too, and the water felt refreshing without being overly chlorinated. I slept well on the comfortable bed with pillows that suited me, then enjoyed the continental breakfast, including real potato slices, which you don't often find in small towns. This was my first stay, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was, even the dresser and bedside tables were dust-free. It had the basics I needed: a microwave, freezer/fridge, safe, and coffee machine. The bathtub was especially clean, and that's what won me over. I'll come back when I'm in the area.

The room itself was pretty nice, with a comfortable bed, good TV, and fridge, though there were hairs and scraps left by the previous guests. The shampoo bottle was nearly empty. Downstairs, the bar and lounge were a nice touch. I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes to check in and rang their phone, which serves as a bell, at least 4 times. Even letting it ring continuously got no response. The housekeepers seemed to hear it and ignore me; one even ran to kiss her boyfriend in front of me while I was still waiting. When someone finally came, he was nice, but if check-in starts at 3:00pm, someone should probably be in the lobby. The side door doesn't latch, so anyone can get in. There was also a pile of dead bugs in the stairwell corner, hard to miss and apparently not cleaned up. Not the worst place, not the best either.

We paid a good price for a basic room, and were surprised by how many amenities it came with. Great value.
