Most of the staff were extremely friendly, and the room was very clean. You can tell they work hard to keep an old-fashioned hotel in good condition, and it seems many long-term guests appreciate the place and its upkeep. The mattresses are memory foam, though they weren’t comfortable for a heavier person like me. The maintenance man seemed annoyed when I got towels from housekeeping. I didn’t need anything else for my second day, but he snapped at me about taking them. The room uses an old-fashioned key lock, and it would be nice to have a slide bolt or chain lock as well.

The owners seemed far more focused on checking the linens for stains than on maintaining the aging building or making guests feel welcome. Their questioning about towels felt hostile and amateurish, like a self-appointed “Stain Police.” The whole place had a grudging atmosphere, as if having guests was a personal inconvenience. Basic courtesy and customer service were missing. At the Western Royal Inn, I felt treated like a suspected criminal under lockdown instead of a paying guest. That’s a huge stretch from hospitality. Save your money and sanity for somewhere that treats you as a guest instead of someone they can’t wait to inspect. Avoid this place at all costs. If I could give zero stars, I would. It’s not worth your time or money!

The room was a huge disappointment. There was hair on the sheets and sink from the previous guests, so we turned the fitted sheet and pillowcases inside out and slept with a blanket and towel we had in the car. The location was pretty good, and so was the service.

The owners were very friendly and accommodating. They even let us hang out while our dog played with theirs in their fenced backyard, which was generous of them. We stayed in an updated room and it was lovely. The place is old and not the best looking, but they’re doing a good job fixing it up. It was comfortable, very clean, affordable, and pet friendly. There was no hair dryer, but the room had a coffee pot, microwave, fridge, and AC, all nice to have. We’ve paid much more at big-name places that were worse. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with the Western Royal.

The location is nice and the staff were friendly when we checked in. My wife thinks even two stars is generous, and after that the good parts pretty much ended. The room was a decent size but in rough shape. The dresser had big chunks missing, the bathroom door trim looked patched and repainted several times, and the “frames” were just plywood, making the beds very hard and uncomfortable. The bedding was nasty, with several stains on the sheets that made me wonder how often they were washed. There were so many signs warning about extra charges that we felt we might be charged for any small inconvenience we caused after leaving. And the noise was awful. We could hear passing cars as if the window were open, and ordinary footsteps outside sounded like hammer blows. Whatever was going on in the room above us sounded like a dance party all night. I understand it’s an older hotel and won’t be perfect, but there were too many problems for us to enjoy the stay.
