Tilton Inn

I found the Tilton Inn while looking for an affordable, hopefully cute place to stay, and was really pleased with it. I only learned about its paranormal history after deciding to book and checking the room options online. It was just a quick overnight, and I didn’t encounter any of the other “inhabitants,” even after playing Flogging Molly’s “Laura” for the 12-year-old Laura who’s said to live there. I know this room isn’t known for activity, though. If I’m in the area again, I’d definitely stay here.

We liked wandering along Tilton’s main street and checking out the little shops. Tilt'n Diner is nearby too, with its retro look and good food. The hotel is also well placed for an overnight on the way to or from NH’s Lakes Region, close enough to the highways to be convenient while still feeling like a tucked-away find in a fun small town. It has the feel of a classic luxury inn from another time, with most of the conveniences you’d expect today. We enjoyed our short visit. We remembered seeing it on the old TV show Ghost Hunters, but didn’t experience anything eerie ourselves.

The large balcony overlooking Main Street was a favorite. I spent an hour or two out there each evening, relaxing in a rocker. Kathy greeted me and made me feel at home during my pleasant three-night stay while attending a camp at Highland Mountain Bike Park. The inn is quaint, and the room was brighter and more charming than I expected. The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom was clean, though it could use updating. Some renovations were apparently underway, and a few areas need work. I also wished there had been an easy-to-reach outlet by the nightstand. Still, it was a delightful stay, and a few updates could make this place a real gem.

I always feel welcome and valued here. Allan and Kathy greet me with warmth, and every staff member takes the time to get to know you and make the stay great. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year. Allan and Kathy, thank you!
