Courtyard by Marriott Toledo West

Traveling alone with my daughter, I wanted somewhere family friendly, and this place felt like that. We enjoyed the pool, and it was close to all the places I needed to go. It was my first stay and a great experience. The room and hallways were clean and smelled nice, and I loved the updated bathroom. The beds were comfortable, and the TV, microwave, fridge, and AC all worked well. I'd definitely recommend it. Marriott rarely disappoints me 😊

The rooms were so-so, with older bathrooms but newer furniture. The thermostats didn't work, so I had to control the AC directly from the window unit panel. The elevators were slow, so take the stairs. Make sure to lock your doors. This isn't the best part of town. I called three times to confirm the rooms would be next to each other, and got confirmation each time. I'm top tier Marriott status, but the rooms weren't near each other. Check-in took over 15 minutes, with the staff constantly getting sidetracked. They seemed scattered and blamed the systems, and brushed off the problem without offering to fix it. The keys didn't work either. The front desk blamed the room keys being too thick and had to issue legacy keys. Digital keys didn't work here. Poor experience in an even poorer area. I'm a big Marriott traveler, and this staff could care less. Be better.

This is only about the food, not the hotel. I booked a room and paid an extra $20 for breakfast. The lobby isn't really a restaurant, more of a gathering area where you can order snacks, drinks, and breakfast items. Most of the menu is breakfast sandwiches. I got the Sunrise, my wife chose one with turkey and white cheddar, and my son ordered French toast sticks. The woman taking orders was pleasant, and I was glad the add-on was only $20. I told her to charge it to our room, and she said that was fine. Sandwiches were listed at $12-$15. She said the order would take 10 to 15 minutes. There were only two people behind me in line and a group already eating in the lobby. We sat in the private booths. After 20 minutes, I went to check, and the same woman barely seemed to recognize me. I reminded her we'd ordered two sandwiches and French toast sticks about 20 minutes earlier and that she'd said 10 to 15. She looked caught off guard and said she'd meant to tell us the turkey was frozen and would take an hour. The French toast sticks and the other sandwich were ready, so I had to get my wife to reorder hers. My son said the French toast sticks were tasteless. My sandwich looked unimpressive and was really bland, and my wife said the same about hers when it arrived five minutes later. If you're staying there, I wouldn't add breakfast. Go outside the hotel to eat. It was really disappointing. The bill included all three items, totaling $48. I called the next day, and someone said she'd check with her manager and get back to me. A day later, I called again because nobody had called. I was told again they'd check with the manager and call back. They did credit the breakfast to my card, but never called. I'm sure they were embarrassed by how the food looked. This Courtyard needs to do better.

The mini fridge was basically a freezer the whole time. Things would either freeze or not stay cool, and I had to throw some food away. Breakfast isn't free, though there's a small market, Starbucks, and a bistro on site. I also didn't notice the strong room scent other people mentioned, but the elevator smell was definitely a problem for us. Housekeeping usually came in the evenings and was loud both in voice and in how they worked. They banged the wall while vacuuming next door and talked loudly to each other down the hall. You may want earplugs if you take an early evening nap. Even with those gripes, this has been one of my favorite hotels. We stayed a couple of weeks in room 524 on the fifth floor. It was very clean, and the beds were super comfortable. I left housekeeping a note asking them to leave extra of everything, and they were happy to stock us up. The AC and heating worked great. I liked the different TV options too, whether streaming, casting, or watching the regular stations.
