Quality Inn Toledo Westgate

The front desk woman greeted us with a huge smile and was an absolute doll. I'd been nervous after reading the reviews, but the room smelled nice. We checked for bugs first and didn't see any bedbugs, then looked over the sheets and blankets for stains or signs they hadn't been cleaned. No problems there. The bed had no give at all, almost like sleeping on the floor, which might have been softer. The room seemed reasonably clean, though there was dust all over the headboard, rose petals behind the chair, and dirt or debris by the toilet paper. Housekeeping could do a little better, but it wasn't a bad place overall.

Jennifer & Nessy gave nice customer service, but the room and hotel were filthy. I arrived at 8:30 pm Friday after seven days on the road from Washington State to Toledo, with my two dogs. The other Holiday Inn & Express hotels we stayed at during the trip had all been clean and nice. I didn't trust the housekeeping here after seeing the room, and told the manager so. She offered another room, but I didn't see why I should move if this one was filthy and assumed the others were too. I asked for vinegar water to clean with, but she gave me three small wash rags and no cleaner. I decided to do it myself. On Saturday morning I showered and wiped up the water I'd tracked onto the floor. The white rag turned black. Room 102, right by the entrance and front desk, was filthy all over, not just the floor. The TV was thick with dust, as was the top of its wall rack and the headboard. The manager said the TVs had been installed a year earlier, and the screws had left drywall dust behind the rack that still hadn't been vacuumed. I have pictures. The towel rack was coming loose, the toilet seat was unsecured, and black spots on its lid wouldn't wash off. The bathroom sink was clogged too. Trash cans outside stayed full for two days, and the front planters were dry with dying flowers. The owner blamed the dirty room on my two dogs. It wasn't my dogs. The owner said they don't clean the floor, they mop it, and I suspect they use filthy water from room to room, spreading germs everywhere. This place doesn't seem to care about guests' comfort or cleanliness. They want your money and blame you for the disgusting state of the hotel. Bad customer service, zero stars, and none of the fancy descriptions fit. Don't waste your money or trust them. If they can't clean or maintain the place properly, they shouldn't be in business.

The TV remote didn't work well, and on both nights the clerk was supposed to give me a military or AARP discount but never did. I won't stay here again.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. The staff were amazing and friendly, and the location worked perfectly for me. It's a great stay for the price, and I'll come back when I'm in the area.
