The room was the best part of my stay: the king suite had two comfortable chairs, including a huge, fluffy recliner, and the bed turned out to be soft and good for my back even though it looked hard at first. I’ve stayed in plenty of bigger-chain hotels over the past four months, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I was more comfortable here than at any of them. The hallways had a smell like an assisted living facility, and the woman at check-in seemed to want me gone. She wasn’t exactly rude, just apathetic. Still, I spend the night in the room, not the lobby. It’s in Toledo, Iowa, where there are only two hotel choices if you need to stay in the area. If I’m within 50 miles of Tama/Toledo, I’ll stay here again.

My husband stayed in room 206 in April 2026 and woke up with several bites on his back. He then found bed bugs in the bed. He consulted ChatGPT, which said the room had reportedly been identified as having bed bugs just a couple of weeks earlier and was supposed to have been disinfected. It clearly hadn’t been.

The staff were generally friendly, but this was a bad experience. I reported bugs in the bathroom and was told it was because of food I’d brought into the room. I’ve never felt so insulted. After work I came back and was told the room had been sprayed, but I still saw bugs. They moved me to another room, where I found a big spider 🕷. I also mentioned that the same bugs were in the next room. They said they’d check, but nobody came to look. At this point, my advice is to sleep with the lights on and maybe the bugs will stay away.
