We ended up staying at Topaz Lodge after a brutal drive toward the Lake Tahoe area. We left Sacramento around 12:30 pm the day after Christmas, planned to take 395, then an avalanche forced us onto 50. After sitting in traffic for 10 hours, we saw Topaz lounge around 1:45 am and stopped for the night. We had planned on two nights, but checked out, then went to Travertine hot springs. It was beautiful after a week of snow. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked another night at Topaz Lodge on the way back. Dinner was excellent, and we had a great time at the bar playing slots, listening to music, and having drinks with good company. Breakfast was awesome again, just as it had been the other two times we ate there. The staff were accommodating, the food was great, and although we didn't hit a big jackpot, my hubby won a little. We had a blast with our besties and are planning to come back this weekend for another hot spring. Topaz Lodge is a hidden gem, and I'd recommend stopping in if you're headed that way. The cafe serves average diner food, and ordering it to go costs $1.50 per plate. The website still doesn't mention that the steakhouse is closed, so the cafe is the only on-site food option. Gardnerville is only about a 15-minute drive away and has plenty of choices. This little hideaway has very nice accommodations, all with lake views, and a great small casino. The staff couldn't have been more hospitable. It's about a two-hour drive from Jackson, and I'll definitely be back.

The upstairs coffee shop was a much better experience, with better service. The Steakhouse was noisy, and its service didn't feel right for a proper steakhouse. I'd avoid it.

The lake views are beautiful, and it has a cozy, homey feel. There's usually good food at Topaz when you're hungry.

The lake view from the room made my weekend. It was clean and warm, with a big comfortable bed. The restaurant in the casino served awesome food, and the front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and quick.
