Far View Lodge

The views are fabulous, and this is a special place to stay while enjoying Mesa Verde national park. It’s easy to get to tours of the Cliff Dwellings. Eat at the Metate Room, the food is really good and the service pleasant. If the room gets cold, the unit heats it quickly. Take pictures from your porch, and have a look at the night sky.

I barely slept after finding a mouse in room 125. Around 2 am I woke to it scurrying around, then saw it run into the bathroom and disappear when I turned on the lights. I left the lights on, which made it hard to sleep. I’d avoid bringing any food into the room, regardless of the number. Around 5 am, it sounded like the mouse had moved upstairs, and I could hear the people above me and every footstep. I told the desk on my way out, but they offered no accommodation and said, “you are staying in a national park.” I’ve stayed at plenty of national park lodges and never had mice in my room. Further investigation made it seem like this has been an ongoing problem beyond room 125. If rodents in your quarters are a problem for you, I wouldn’t stay here.

The rooms are clean, and some have nice views. The restaurant was understaffed during my visit, though the staff were kind and did what they could to make the experience pleasant. Prices are quite high, and some dishes weren’t prepared well. The salmon was overcooked and very dry on both nights.

I canceled the same day I booked and was told it was no problem and that I’d get a refund. After seven calls and five weeks, I’ve given up and let them keep the money. The staff are nice and seem to want to help, but there doesn’t appear to be a working system or anyone to escalate things to when it fails. I feel scammed.
