Comfort Inn Towson - Baltimore North

I’ve stayed here several times when visiting Towson. It’s an older hotel with basic amenities, so don’t expect luxury, but the staff are friendly and try hard to help in ways I haven’t always seen at fancier places. The cleaning crew does a great job, and the groundsmen keep the property free of debris. There’s plenty of parking, no deposit fee, free breakfast, and coffee available around the clock. The location is handy for popular spots and restaurants nearby. If you just need an inexpensive place to sleep on a trip, this is the cheapest option I’ve found in the area.

I’m asking for a refund for the rest of my stay because I can’t continue here after just two nights of repeated problems. This has been especially stressful while I’m dealing with the loss of a loved one. The first room seemed clean at a glance, but there was hair on the bed linens and pillows, and the bathtub was brown and marked. I asked the front desk to have the room cleaned and the sheets changed; someone came up to replace the bedding. After I went to a wake, I returned to find mice on top of the food I’d left on the table. I reported it and said I couldn’t stay in that room, so I was moved to the fourth floor. The bathroom in that room was also a problem. There was what looked like cleaning powder or residue left in the tub, so I asked the desk to have it cleaned properly. After I left for the funeral and came back, I saw that staff had painted over part of the tub instead. It was a poor, partial job that looked like a cover-up, and the paint smell was overwhelming while my daughters and grandchildren were visiting. The lobby felt unwelcoming too. I’m writing to complain about this experience at your Comfort Inn location at 8801 Loch Raven Blvd. The cleanliness, service, and condition of the hotel have all fallen far below acceptable standards. We only stayed one night while in Towson for my son’s baseball game, and I wish I’d saved my 12k points and slept in the car. The room, 414 on the fourth floor, was in rough shape, and the floors were filthy. There was supposedly an ice machine, but there wasn’t one. The elevator was painfully slow, and when I got off on the fifth floor there was an overflowing trash can and more than 10 bags of garbage. The lot had trash in it when we arrived. At breakfast around 7:30, there were just three apples and a few small cereal boxes, and the coffee wasn’t hot. The clerk sat behind the glass and seemed not to want to be bothered. He said nothing about breakfast or Choice membership. There also seemed to be several long-term or permanent residents there. This is one of the dirtiest, most neglected hotels I’ve seen. It’s a total dump and a waste of money. How is this a Comfort Inn? I thought Choice Hotels’ Comfort Inn was meant to be a decent chain. It should be called a Rodeway Inn or Econo Lodge, since those are clearly bottom-tier brands. I wouldn’t stay here again, and I wish I could give it zero stars.

The coffee machine in the breakfast room made delicious coffee, and the people were sweet. That was about the only bright spot. The whole hotel smelled of old cigarette smoke, especially the hallways, and the rooms smelled too. After the toilet overflowed, my room also smelled musty and moldy. The overflow was the worst part. I asked the desk clerk for towels so I could clean up the water and still shower quickly, but he said there weren’t any extra. He said there was a mop, though it “wouldn’t work.” He offered to move me, but I was already running late, so I couldn’t shower that morning and spent the day worrying that I smelled bad. He later brought one more towel, but it barely helped. Not having spare towels or a usable mop for an overflow is really bad management. There were plenty of other issues: my first room had a housekeeping cart in it and no sheets on the bed. Some towels and a pillowcase were stained, the chair had gross dried food spots, and there was no phone in the room to call the front desk. The internet kept cutting out, there were no tissues, and the walls, furniture, and even the tub were damaged, with areas needing new paint and wallpaper. Breakfast was short on bread, and one morning there was no milk, so nobody could have the cereal that was out. The staff were nice, but the incompetence was shocking.
