Park Place Hotel

Everyone who came to the visitation and luncheon was impressed by the view and the food. I held both events at the Park Place to honor my grandmother, and the staff helped make a difficult memorial service as easy as possible. Sasha made sure everything was arranged and ran smoothly, and Scott, the catering manager, was a pleasure to work with. His recommendations helped throughout the planning. The location, food, and service were all wonderful. I live in Traverse City and had heard good things about events here, but this was my first time hosting one. I’d absolutely do it again and recommend the venue. I’ll always be grateful for how special they made these services for my family.

The staff were genuinely kind, welcoming, and efficient, and they made a real difference during our stay. Still, we chose the hotel for its historic character and paid a premium, but the worn condition of the property made the room feel more like a budget hotel than a historic place with charm. The restaurant also needs attention. Our breakfast table was so deteriorated that it felt uncomfortable to sit at, and its age made it seem unclean. The building has real potential, and I hope it gets the maintenance and updates it needs to live up to the historic experience guests expect at these prices.

The bed was comfortable, and the location is amazing. But the carpet was stained and very dirty, and the bathroom was tiny with a toilet seat that didn’t fit properly. We stayed in the West Wing with our two dogs and paid an extra $50 a night for them. I’m fine with a pet fee, but at that added cost I expected the room to be immaculate. When I asked the front desk if there might be no hot water, I was told to let it run for a hot minute. I’d already run both sinks and the shower for three minutes with no warmth at all. It took about ten minutes with all three running before the water got hot. Glad we had the Black Friday discount.

The staff throughout were kind, and we liked the happy hour. The bed was comfortable, the room had a good fridge and microwave, and we could open the window because it was warm inside. Shower pressure was great, and we didn’t hear anyone above or below us. The pool looked nice, though we didn’t have time to use it. Our main disappointment was being assigned room 339 in the four-story annex instead of the tower Cityview room we booked. The hotel blamed our third-party booking, but if it can’t honor partner reservations, it shouldn’t work with them. The room was small and awkward, with a tiny bathroom that required going all the way in to shut the door. The closet wasn’t deep enough to hang clothes easily, some wallpaper was peeling, and the view was the back parking lot. It was a decent stay, but for over $250 a night we would have preferred the room we paid for.
