We loved our wedding week at the River Street Inn in Savannah. Jennifer Henderson was wonderful. She helped us with a courtesy rate, space to get ready, and a food order from the Broken Keel for the girls on the day of the wedding. The food was great. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and you can’t beat the walkable location. Service was amazing and helped make the week so special. We can’t recommend this place enough.

The room was okay overall, but very small. The bathroom was larger, with a claw-foot tub and shower, and I can imagine it feeling cozy in winter. There’s no air conditioning, despite what the “about” information says, though that’s not too surprising for an older building. A small fan didn’t do much on a very warm evening in early July. We also had a strange water issue: after a few minutes, the cold sink tap started running very hot. I wondered if we were above the kitchen, but I don’t know why it happened. When I called later to complain, staff couldn’t reproduce it.

We booked at the last minute and managed to get a queen room. The room was freshly remodeled, adorable, and very comfortable, with lovely furniture and decor. I liked the sheets and the bed, and the claw-foot tub was nice, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. You can only book by phone; room rates and availability are listed on the website. There’s free coffee and a muffin downstairs in the morning, plus a small kitchen and lounge connected to the restaurant and bar. The old historic charm comes with a few quirks. The inn is across the rail line, and trains run often, even at night. They woke me several times despite my being a heavy sleeper. There’s no AC, but they provide lots of fans. It still got hot and stuffy at night because I shut the window to cut down on the noise. The window was really hard to open and close, though that’s understandable in such a historic, beautiful place. I liked the slanted ceilings, but watch your head.

We’re fans of this place. The bartenders and wait staff are the best, and I especially enjoy chatting with Lindsey. The drinks are great, and the food’s good too. I had the yummy chicken wings, while my husband seemed to enjoy his chili.

1882 Bar and Grill is on the River side of the River Street Inn, which can be a little confusing. The food is all smoked and grilled, and it’s the best food ever. Great bar, great river view, and my pick for the top place in town to eat and drink. I suggest the sample plate, though the hot wings are my favorite.
