Riviera Motor Lodge

My room has been excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. The management and other staff have been professional, and I feel safe here. Miracle Mile has been questionable in the past, but it’s improving every day. There’s good lighting, and the Tucson Police department has a station just west of the motel and can respond quickly. There seems to be a pleasant bar to the east, though I’m not sure exactly what it is, and an outdoor church next door to the west. There are other businesses too, with a cemetery to the north. Gas stations, Oracle Rd. businesses, and fast food are all convenient. If you want luxury, Hilton East or Marriott are options, but this is a perfect affordable alternative. The decor is dated, but the rooms are nice and roomy. The two-bedroom setup feels like an apartment and doesn’t cost much more than a regular motel-style room. You get separate bedrooms with locking doors, a big living room, and a full working kitchen with a cooktop, microwave, and full-size fridge. There are two couches with pull-out beds. The rooms are a little small, but still a good size. The bathroom is decent-sized too, though it could use better ventilation. It’s a great location if you’re on a budget, and I’d recommend it.

For $60, the room was okay and the bed was comfortable. I stayed three days and no one did housekeeping: no bed-making, trash removal, or fresh towels and soap. I made what was there last, including reusing a towel on the third day. No big deal, though having to empty my own trash can was a first. Be ready for some unusual “rules” from the manager at check-in.

The downsides were the very big cockroaches. We didn’t see many, but we saw enough to feel a little uncomfortable during our stay. There were good things too: the room was spacious for the price, the flat screen and cable were great, and the laundry area and grounds were clean. The laundry was also very convenient. I liked that management kept loiterers and unwelcome people out of the motel.
