Desert Inn

Breakfast was amazing, especially the waffles with strawberries to put on top, which I hadn't seen at a hotel in a while. The pool and hot tub were working and great, and the small rooms had enough space for the price. You could tell they'd just been remodeled. Check-in at 3pm and checkout at 11am felt like a strange schedule, though. I really enjoyed the stay apart from checkout. Around 10:20, with 40 minutes left before 11am, the maids kept knocking even though I had the do not disturb sign up. Then the manager, I'm assuming, was rude and told us we had to leave. When we pointed out checkout wasn't for another 40 minutes, she said it didn't matter because the maids needed to clean. It felt unprofessional from both parties and caught me off guard.

For $60, we got a room and breakfast, so the price was low, but we won't stay again. The room was very small though clean, and it was a surprise to find a fridge and microwave. The desk clerks were courteous and friendly. Towels were dingy and old, and the bathroom fan sounded like an airplane about to take off. The light was wired to the fan, too. The window screen didn't block the outside lights, and breakfast choices were very limited. If all you need is an inexpensive room, this place is that.

I spent 4 nights here visiting family, and staff were always available and helpful when I needed them. The room was clean and everything worked. The microwave and fridge are on a power strip you need to switch on when you arrive, and the fridge got cold before long. My only trouble was the room key stopped working twice, but the front desk fixed it quickly. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to eat, and there's a locked box at the front desk for your key at checkout.

The free breakfast was nice, and the bed was comfortable, but this place feels bare-bones and worn out. The rooms are tight, the pillows are awful, and the towels are really dingy and grimy. Across the street, a truck stop has something that sounds like a generator running all night. Even with ear plugs, I barely slept. We skipped the pool and hot tub because they only open in the afternoon, which was disappointing. We just stayed one night to get off the road.
