Royal Inn and Suites

We arrived late and found spiders on the beds and in the bathroom. It was horrible. My godmother likes staying at this infested hotel, but she made me come here even though I wanted to go somewhere else.

We needed a break on the way to Leroy Percy in Mississippi, and this place looked okay from far away. Once there, the lobby was locked, so my husband had to go through a tiny night door into a little room with a window. Our room door barely latched, and people kept yelling outside. I didn’t feel safe. The room itself was gross. Stains covered the bed, so we didn’t sleep under the blankets, and the shower curtain had odd red stains. The toilet was so small it seemed meant for a preschool bathroom. The room and bathroom were crooked, with the bathroom practically at a diagonal. There was cable, so I guess that earned the one star, but honestly I’d give less if I could.

This isn’t a five-star hotel, but as a motel it does the job. We got a great price for two nights, close to the casinos and without a resort fee. It could use some cosmetic work, but it was clean, comfortable, safe, and everything worked. I know there are bad reviews, but I try places for myself because people are quicker to report the bad than the good. The front desk staff were friendly, pleasant, and sweet. Just don’t expect Hilton. There were no bugs, and the room had a microwave and small fridge. The towels weren’t plush, there was no iron or blow dryer, and the sheets weren’t especially white or bright, let alone 1,000 thread count. Still, they were clean. I inspected and sniffed them, then slept on them. If you want better sheets or towels, you can bring your own. 😊 It was a pleasant stay. The bathroom wallpaper was pulling apart, but that wasn’t a deal breaker. I spilled something on the floor, wiped it up, and the paper towel came back clean, so yes, they do clean. I usually stay in nice hotels, so if I say this was doable, believe me.

Management apparently expects guests to sleep three to a bed, so it’s fine if you don’t mind sharing with a complete stranger. Quite an experience. Still, fit for a king! I felt the Queen of England would be comfortable here, with tip-top luxury at rock-bottom prices. The sheets have a 1,000 thread count, and every room comes with a complementary towel. I took mine home.
