Hilton Garden Inn Tyler

Even with the difficult reason for our visit, the stay felt comforting. The staff were welcoming, kind, and very courteous, and arranged for our family to have rooms next to each other on the same floor. I was here Nov 29-Dec 3 for my mom's funeral, and my family and I are so grateful for the genuine hospitality.

The room had some good points: the bed was comfortable, the TV and HVAC worked well, and the blackout curtains helped. But the rooms and especially the bathrooms looked dated, and the upkeep comments still seem fair. Trim and molding by the elevators were still pulled away from the walls. In the bathroom, lighting was dim, the bulbs in the room didn't match, and housekeeping missed several needed items. Check-in dragged with three people waiting; the app's digital key took a few minutes to load before it finally worked. The snack bar had very few choices for a HGI, and the desk person just shrugged when I asked about more. The morning staff member was pleasant and very helpful, which made up for the night before.

The hot tub was lovely, but we had several problems. The beds were hard, and cleanliness was questionable: there was either a dead roach or a badly squashed raisin just inside, plus hair hanging from the shower faucet. The front desk staff seemed completely fed up. Online, breakfast was listed as included, but we were charged for it.

Large dogs were barking loudly from a room down the hall, and there was mold on the shower ceiling. The carpets were badly worn and faded, and the building feels old and beaten up, badly in need of a remodel. Even cheaper hotels offer a decent continental breakfast. This Hilton was a letdown, and I won't return.
