Americas Best Value Inn Ullin Mounds

Tap at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and having one of the county’s few restaurants just steps away was handy. The room was clean, quiet, and everything in it worked. I’d stayed in this building 20 years ago, when it was a run-down Best Western, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but my worries turned out to be unfounded. The gas station next door is closed, though there’s another less than a mile away. If work brings me here again, I’d stay here instead of driving up to Anna, IL.

We stayed for two days with the family, including the kids, over December 31, 2021 - Jan 2, 2022, and had a pleasant, memorable visit. The price fit our modest budget, with no hidden extra charges, which was a real plus. The room was very clean, and they brought fresh pillows each day. Housekeeping was polite and quick to bring anything we needed, like soap or towels. Manager Dr.KK aka Peter was nice and down to earth. The friendly atmosphere and nearby dog park were extra bonuses. I’d like to come back.

The bathrooms have been a problem every time I’ve stayed, especially the disgusting grout. Some bleach cleaner should take care of it, and the cleaning overall could be much better. The furniture is broken and needs to go, too. Maybe they slack because this is the only hotel around. It’s okay for a night passing through, but they can definitely do better.

The room was huge and very clean, with no bad smell, and the owner was polite. The coffee was fresh and hot, though I didn’t care for the taste. I’d expected the promised coffee and donuts to come from a local bakery, but they didn’t. The bed bounced too much and left my back hurting, and the toilet was very low. There were no toiletries or water. I was exhausted, so I put up with it, but the price felt too high for all those flaws. He does have booze in a fridge behind the counter, and there’s an envelope asking whether you want to tip housekeeping.
