Super 8 by Wyndham Upland Ontario CA

That blanket was unbelievably scratchy, worse than something you’d put down for a dog, and the cigarette smell was awful. I’m not especially fussy, but this was probably the most disgusting hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. Nasty place.

The first morning, the fire alarm went off at 6am for no reason, and the place didn’t feel safe. I booked for the location and because I trusted the Wyndham name, but this definitely didn’t meet the Wyndham profile. We’ve stayed at several Super 8s over the years, and none were like this. The staff were somewhat friendly, but the rooms were bad, with old pillows and horrid bathrooms. In the first room they gave me, 666 was scratched into the floor (see video). When I pointed it out, they acted surprised. I hate giving 1 star, but this place deserves it.

We booked adjoining rooms because we were travelling with our three sons and wanted to keep them close. After a woman was arrested in the room below us in the middle of the day, we still couldn’t afford to leave and find somewhere else. She had been walking around in her underwear 24/7, so we were pretty sure she was a sex worker. The first night, rain was pouring down and water came through the roof onto our bed. The front desk gave us keys to the next two adjoining rooms, but those were flooding too. Instead of coming to inspect the damage, the desk lady gave my husband a card key for all the rooms. He went upstairs and shut off the water at a toilet because a pipe had apparently broken. They moved us into two rooms that weren’t adjoining, even though we’d booked adjoining rooms for safety. I feel duped and taken advantage of. My husband tried to speak with management about a refund, but they didn’t even communicate with us about our concerns. I’d like the cost of the stay refunded.

The TV in the next room stayed on all night, and a dog kept barking. The rooms really aren’t quiet, especially with ours right by the stairs. We’d booked a smoke-free room, but it smelled like smoke. There were three of us sharing two beds, but only two towels and one washcloth. When I asked the young woman at the desk for more so everyone could shower and use the pool, she was very rude about it. The bathroom sink was cracked, and water kept leaking from the tub faucet. Breakfast was just awful coffee, orange juice, a Hostess mini chocolate muffin, or a granola bar. That was it.
