Motel 6 Urbana, IL

The hallway smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and marijuana as soon as we came in. It was disgusting. We'd reserved a wheelchair-accessible room online, but the room we got wasn't usable for my grandpa. He couldn't even get through the bathroom door with his walker. The bathroom was tiny, the tub only came halfway up my shin, and once he sat on the toilet there was no way for him to help himself stand. The listing photos showed grab bars and enough space for someone with a disability. When I complained, the office employee did nothing, basically saying it was our bad luck. He said they had rooms like the one we needed but had given them to other people. This hotel wasn't worth it.

The location was right off the road we were traveling, and check-in was quick. Renovations were underway, but I think it'll be great once they get the kinks sorted out. The other guests were friendly, and we had an enjoyable stay.

The room was clean and the bed was more comfortable than I expected, so for the money this place is a good deal. Just keep expectations for the extras low. The towels were threadbare, there was no hair dryer, and I had to ask for shampoo, which came in the tiniest size.

I paid through booking.com, but at check-in Barvin said I'd have to pay again because booking.com hadn't given him my card details. He said a refund would take seven days, which would leave me paying twice for one room. I had to leave and book somewhere else, and now I'm waiting for my money back. Save yourself the time and cost, don't book here.
