It can be a fun ride, though the lines get long and the price has risen a lot over the years. I’ve been taking this gondola for more than ten years and haven’t been stuck or had a bad experience. Once you reach the top, there’s plenty to do in summer. If you’re looking for something to check out around Vail or Lions Head, this is worth a look.

We spent the day hiking the trails back to Mid-Vail gondola 1, then rode down from there. The views from the top are amazing, and there’s a lot for kids to do, including tubes, slides, a ropes course, trampoline bungee jumping, and plenty of bikers. Senior tickets covered unlimited rides all day. Taking a bike up costs $55, compared with $35 without one, and adventure passes cover the activities. A great day out.
We used the pass to ride up and down a couple of times, then hiked over to Vail 1 gondola. The views from the top were spectacular, and the pass gave us unlimited access for the whole day.
The ticket lets you ride up and down as often as you like all day. It’s a bit pricey, but the ride is great and makes it easy to get to the beautiful mountain hikes.
There are some fun runs on this side of the mountain. Simba loses coverage and gets icy in places, though. Stop at Rimini for coffee.
